The government will provide 1GB of free internet data to all citizens of the country on July 18.
The directive was issued by the BTRC today, Wednesday. It says that all mobile operators in the country will provide 1GB data for a period of 5 days to their customers on July 18. The operators will inform the customers about the free data in advance through SMS.
Later, at around 9 pm, Local Government Advisor Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan posted a post on his official Facebook page. There he wrote, ‘As part of the government initiative to commemorate the July Uprising, the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has instructed to provide 1GB internet to customers free of charge on July 18.’
In July last year, the ousted Awami League government shut down the internet across the country during the quota reform movement. Keeping that in mind, the interim government has taken such an initiative to mark the one-year anniversary of the movement.
